What is IB?
· An internationally recognized high school diploma
generally regarded as similar to an associate’s degree. Recognized

of U and BYU.

· A two-year program of comprehensive study.
· A high quality curriculum which focuses on critical thinking,
internationalism, and traditional disciplines.
· Service and citizenship in the school, community, and world are key elements.
· Conceived in the early 1960’s and designed as a passport for students moving
from one international school to another
· IB schools in 101 countries.
· Over 1400 schools participate—5 in the
· 90% of North American IB schools are public.
· It is for highly motivated, very interested students with average or above
average intelligence.

What happens next?
· PHS is open attendance as an academic magnet. Students may attend from around the entire valley. (In the past, students from as far away as Springville have commuted to West High for IB.)
· PHS is the only IB program in
· Our faculty, diversity, tradition of excellence, schedule and location make
us an ideal place to offer the IB.
· The schools we have visited have experienced
tremendous population growth through IB.
· IB students are extremely successful in college.
· PHS will continue to train teachers and finish the application process during
the coming year using GEAR-UP carryover funds.
· Plan to organize a parent support group.
· The first diploma candidates 30+ began as juniors in Fall
’07.
