Voice Of Democracy

National “audio essay” contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).  To enter the competition, a student need only write and then record a short, three-to-five minute essay expressing their interpretation of the assigned patriotic theme: "Freedom's Obligation."

The top national prizes range from $10,000 to $25,000. Local scholarships are: $175 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

"Imagine That!" is the theme of this year's John Hughes Young Writers Contest, an essay contest open to all juniors and seniors in Utah's public and private high schools.

Essays should be about 1,000 words, nonfiction, and based on personal experience, observation or opinion.

This is the application for all federal Grants, work study programs, and Student Loans.  It is also the first step for State Grants.

Guys, if you are 18 years old, you must register for the Selective Service before you are eligible for any federal Aid.  You can register at  www.sss.gov. It is now possible to register as early as 17 years old and it will be held until you are 18.

              Apply for Federal Aid early, but not before January 1, 2007.   Each school has a suggested deadline.
